GOLDIE SAMBOL OBITUARY
Goldie Strassler
Sambol, 96
KENNEBUNK -- Goldie Strassler Sambol passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2011, in Arundel, at the age of 96.
She will always be remembered as a woman of determination who began her life of exercise with Jack Lalane's TV show while her children were young.
Goldie was born in Kolbuszowa, Poland, the daughter of Amalia Nachman and Fishel Berger. She came to the U.S. through Ellis Island as a young woman in 1939. She worked hard to learn English and began a career as a seamstress. She enjoyed making clothing in the latest fashion styles, and many of her customers became life long friends.
Goldie married Joseph Strassler in 1945 and they settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1956, they moved to East Meadow, N.Y., where they raised their four sons. Joseph passed away in 1970. Goldie later moved to Sunrise, Fla., where she met her second husband, Al Sambol, on the golf course. They shared their lives for the next 12 years until Al passed away in 1998. She moved to Rockville, Md., to be closer to her sons.
In June of this year she moved to Maine and enjoyed her life in the Atria in Kennebunk, especially times shared with her good friend, Thelma Bartner.
Goldie is survived by her four sons and their wives, Philip and Anne Strassler of Roslyn Heights, N.Y., Dr. Howard and Myra Strassler of Baltimore, Md., Robert and Judy Goldberg-Strassler, Greenbelt, Md., Dr. David and Beth Strassler of Arundel; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Internment will be at the New Montifiore Cemetery in Long Island. David and Beth Strassler will observe Shiva in their home at 24 Hummingbird Lane, Arundel, from Monday through Wednesday of next week. Services will be held at home at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on each day.
