Introduction
Goolam Hoosen Ahmed Bassa was born in 1861 in India.
He took the first step in bringing the Bassa family into Durban, South Africa via Mauritius. His father was Ahmed Bassa.
He first married Fathima and bore 4 children
(3 sons & 1 daughter)
thereafter he Married Katija Gonda and had
11 children (8 BOYS AND 3 GIRLS).
He lived his life as a businessman and lived for 75 years where he traded at 153 Grey street, next to the jummah musjid mosque. He visited Europe where he took his wife katija,
2 sons, 2 daughters and 2 servants.
He passed away on 29/08/1936 .

H.Bassa, died at his home yesterday.
Mr Bassa (67) as well known by his business advert-
isement--"famous Bassa of 153 Grey Street",and
one of the city's first businessmen to hold "sales"
throughout the year.
He was buried at the Brook street Cemetry yester-
day.Mr Bassa is survived by his wife, eight daughters
and three sons.
