Gospatric appears in the pedigree drawn from the 1615 and 1666 Visitations of Cumberland and Westmorland Counties. He is listed as the son of Orm, and is shown with three sons. He was born c.1105 in Workington, Cumberland, England and died c. 1179 in High Ireby, Wigton, Cumberland, England.
He married Egeline d'Engaine, the daughter of Raoul (or Ranulf) d'Engaine and Ibria de Trevers, Heiress of Burgh-by-Sands. She was born c.1114. in Burgh-by-Sands, Cumberland, England and died c.1179 in High Ireby, Wigton, Cumberland, England.
Gospatric, of High Ireby, Lord of Workington, son of Orm, first comes into documented records in 1150 as he witnessed a charter of Henry [ son of David I, king of Scotland] with Bishop Athewold to Holm Cultram Abbey. He is also found in the exchange of land with his cousin, William I de Lancaster (son of Gilbert, 4th(?) Baron of Kendal) for the lands of William de Lancaster at Workington in Coupland. Gospatric Fitz Orm issued a charter to St. Bees Priory sometime in the period, 1138-1157, which charter was witnessed by his first cousin, Alan Fitz Waltheof, his brothers-in-law, William and Gilbert Engaine, his wife Elgiva, his mother-in-law, Ebrea [de Trevers], and his three sons, Thomas, Adam, and Robert.
Excavations between 1948 and 1950 uncovered the site of a mid-13th century moated manor house consisting of a hall and a possible pele tower on the site of a probable Norman motte and bailey castle of c 1100. The manor house was destroyed in c 1339. No visible remains. Built over site of Roman wall and turret 72b.
