About Gottfrieda Borcher Hitzeroth Scott

According to Adriaan Swanepoel, author of "Geslagregister van Swanepoel-families in Suid-Afrika", Gottfrieda's name is spelled "Gottfreda Borcher Heitzeroth Dubell" (Source: e-mail conversation with Craig Sheldon); however, in the 1935 "South African Women's Who's Who", her name is spelled "Gottfrieda Heitz-Roth Doubell". (Source: Ancestry24.co.za)

According to Millicent Emslie, Gottfried's name is spelled on her christening certificate as "Gottfrieda Borcher Hitzeroth Doubell". Since no father is mentioned on Gottfrieda's certificate - and her mother was not married at the time - it's believed that Gottfrieda's name might be a sly reference to her possible father, Gottfried Borcher Hitzeroth.
