According to Eva McLeod nee Doubell's death record in the Cape Town Archives, she died from an "internal hemorrhage from a ruptured tubal pregnancy" after 9 1/2 hours on 8 June 1913. Her age at death was given as 38, giving a date of birth c.1875; Milicent Emslie gave Eva's date of birth c.1870. Eva was buried in Steytlerville.

Also according to Eva's death record, she had previously given birth to 10 children; Eva's death notice however only names 5 children. It is possible these other five children died young.

The names of four of these other children were found in the Cape Town Archives, HENC 1/2/24/3/1 Steytlerville Births 1900 Feb - 1909 May:
