He was enlisted as a private with the 5th Light Regiment (Regiment Ref number 446) on the 15 February 1856 and ended his service in the 2 nd Regiment. His service records concluded at 31 March 1860. Prior to enlisting his occupation is listed as carpenter located at Gretsback in the Wurtemburg Region. His next of kin is listed as J Maurer in Ostbach. He is naturalised as British on the 9 December 1865.
