Sehr geehrte Janet,
Grundsätzlich: ein Adliger ohne Ritterschlag.
Aber auch: ein Rittergutsbesitzer in ländlich geprägten Gebieten. Daher auch die abfällige Bezeichnung „Krautjunker“ oder auch Landjunker.
Otto von Bismarck was an "Junker"
Your translation is not quite correct - a Junker is a noble without accolade, a manor owner in a rural area. a Squire is of noble birth and serves his knight - a Junker serves nobody.
Sorry for my English
Sincerely
Heinrich von Bünau

Ulrich von Württemberg (* after 1340 ; † August 23, 1388 at the Battle of Döffingen ) was the son of Count Eberhard II of Württemberg and Elisabeth von Henneberg-Schleusingen .
life
In 1362 Ulrich married Elisabeth of Bavaria (* 1329; † 1402), daughter of Emperor Ludwig IV. From this marriage the later Count Eberhard III. from Württemberg. Various sources assume that there were other sons named Heinrich and Ulrich and a daughter.
After the death of his uncle Ulrich IV in 1366, he apparently ruled Württemberg together with his father Eberhard II. Both escaped an assassination attempt by Count Wolf von Eberstein in 1367 during a stay "in the Wildbad" (presumably Wildbad or Teinach ) . In the time that followed, Eberhard oriented his policy strongly against the imperial cities that stood in the way of further expansion of Württemberg. In 1372, Württemberg fought the first battle against the towns near Altheim, which was victorious. On May 14, 1377, Ulrich was at Achalm Castle with a large number of knights , as a mercenary from the Free Imperial City of Reutlingenundertook a raid on Württemberg territory. Ulrich attacked them on their return march below the Achalm ( Battle of Reutlingen ). After heavy losses, Ulrich's team withdrew to the Achalm; he himself was wounded in battle. As early as 1380, shortly after its founding, Ulrich joined the Löwenbund , an association of nobility against the cities. Ulrich thus became a kind of link between the county of Württemberg and the lower nobility, who were in a position to front the cities. On August 23, 1388, the military clashes between Württemberg and other nobles and the Swabian League of Towns , founded in 1376, broke out in the Battle of Döffingentheir peak. The vanguard of the noble army was led by Ulrich. This was almost destroyed in the course of the battle and Ulrich fell. After the arrival of the main army led by his father, Württemberg was able to win the battle. In Ulrich's 500th year of death, a memorial stone was erected in his honor near Döffingen.
