Mathilde van Loon (1282-1313) received the Land van Vogelsanck , consisting of Zonhoven , Zolder , Houthalen and the southern part of Heusden in 1308 as her father's dowry when she married Godfried van Heinsberg (the father of Diederik van Heinsberg ). Until the French regime these areas would remain part of the Land of Vogelzang that became a free barony around 1600.
