About Greddyf ap Cwnws Ddu

See Peter Bartrum, https://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/bitstream/handle/2160/6516/TABLES%... (May 30, 2018; Anne Brannen, curator)

See Lloyd, "The History of the Lords Marcher," 1884, Whiting and Co. vol IV, p. 116. His information is taken from Harley MS 4181.

In discussing with Darrell Wolcott, Center for the Study of Ancient Wales, the timeline from Greddyf back to Cunedda, and the fact that it fell at least 2 generations short, even allowing for extended generational spans, he provided the following information to my query of "I’m wondering if the construction found in HL 1(a) and HL 2(a) might be conflating people such as Peredur Teirnoe or Meilyr eryr gwyr gorsedd.."

"That is clearly a nickname for Meilyr, means "the men of the eagle's throne" whoever they were. There is no such word as "teirnoe" but one of the sources for HLG 2a renders it "tair noe" which may be a phonetic spelling of "teyr noe". I suggest Peredur was called "deyr" meaning "tedious" and there is an "ap" missing before "Noe" so I've added Noe as the father of Peredur and son of Meilyr.

In Bartrum's charts, he shows that 3 generations are missing from Cunedda down to Maelog Dda. (His chart omits a generation 3, 11 and 19) Two of the sources which underlie HLG 1a say that "Marchwyn ap Marchwyn" belongs in the pedigree where the others have a single "Marchwyn"
