Biography

No. 4.-DIRCK SUTPHEN, [Dirck], bap. Mar. 3, 1689; m. GRIETJE VAN PELT, (dau. of Aert Tunisz Laenen Van Pelt and Neeltje Janse Van Tuyl), of New Utrecht, L. I. He became a member of the Marlborough Dutch Church, Monmouth Co., N. J., in 1713. In 1745 he subscribed two pounds toward the erection of a new building for the Tennant Church.

Grietje was the sister of Geertruyd, who married Dirck’s brother Guisbert Sutphen. Their father, Aert, was a son of Teunis Jansen Laenen Van Pelt, brother of Matthys Laenen, progenitor of the Lane family.

Born on 9 June 1691 at New Utrecht, Kings Co., Long Island, New York.

Married Derick Sutphen, son of Dirck Janse Van Sutphen and Lysbeth Janse, before 1712.

Grietje Van Pelt and Derick Sutphen were members of the at Reformed Dutch Congregations, Freehold and Middletown, Monmouth Co., New Jersey, on 19 June 1713.
