On 12 April 1853, after the death of Charles Taylor, Mrs. Anna Taylor purchased a "negro girl" about ten years old, named Dolia, for her grandson Griffin, from the Resters, the family of Griffin's mother. Land Deed 982-1039 C Marion County, MS William Washington Rester p.567 Bill Sale to Anna Taylor This Indenture made and entered into between William Washington Rester of the Parish of Washington, and state of Louisiana of the first part and Anna Taylor (wife of Charles Taylor) of and [for] Griffin Hardin (Minor Child of Hiram Harden and Pamela Harden his wife) Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Five Hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said Anna Taylor for herself as well as for the said Griffin Harden, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, I have this day bargained sold and delivered and do by these presents bargain, sell, deliver, and confirm to the said Anna Taylor for and during the full term of her natural life a certain negro girl about ten years old named Dolia - the said girl slave to be kept used managed and disposed of by the said Anna, in any manner that she may see fit, for and during the term of her natural life as beforesaid - and after the death of her the said Anna and upon the determination thereby of her said estate in said slave. I do hereby bargain, sell, convey and dispose of to the Said Griffin Harden the remainder in fee (simple) of the said slave as well as of all her increase, that may have been borned of her body prior to the determination of the life estate aforesaid as well as what may be bornd after the determination of said life estate - To have and to hold the same to the said Griffin Harden his heirs and assigns forever.

Given under my hand and seal this twelfth day of April A.D. Eighteen hundred and fifty three.

The State of Mississippi } Marion County } Before me A. Willoughby, a Justice of the Peace of Said County, personally came the above named Wm. Washington Rester who acknowledges that he signed sealed and delivered the bargain and of conveyance of slave on the day and year therein mentioned as his act and deed and that he did at the same time delivered the Slave therein mentioned for the purposes therein specified to Said Anna Taylor.
