About Grissel Campbell

https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Grace_Hays_%282%29

Grace / Grizel Hays is commonly believed to have been born in Ireland about 1678, to parents Patrick Hays and Catherine Gillis, to have married John Campbell about 1795 in Ireland, and to have died in Augusta County Virginia in 1741. The documentary basis for all of the above data is unknown. However, provisionally accepting these vita, it is perhaps significant that Grace would have been an exact contemporary of John Hays (20) (commonly believed to have been born in 1674) and John's kinsman (YDNA evidence), Patrick Hays (who may have been born about 1680). Grace's husband settled in Augusta County at the same time as John and Patrick Hays. It seems likely that there is a family connection between the two, especially given the information that Grace's father was also a "Parick Hays". Since these data are currently poorly documented, such a possible connection has to be given limited credence, but is worth further exploration.

Chalkley's contains no entries for Grace/Gizzel Hays or Campbell. No record in Chalkley's has been identified that can be directly associated either with her or her husband John. The fact that a DOD of 1741 is commonly given for both Grace and John is somewhat suspicious. Its possible that they died elsewhere. Some give John's POD as Lancaster Pennsylvania, but what this is based on is unknown.
