About Gunder Halvorson Vesti-Gåthaug

Wikitree: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gaathaug-2.

Gunder was a farmer, and owned shares of several farms in the Sauherad area.

He was born 1730 at Sauherad, the son of Halvor Gaathaug and Tone Roste. He was baptized 29 May 1730 at the Sauherad Church.[1]

In 1759, Gunder took over the farm Vesti-Gaathaug from his step-father, Per Bjornssen. (Gunnar's father had died when Gunnar was only eleven years old.) [2]

Gunder married Ingeborg Olavsdatter Gvannes 21 April 1755 at Sauherad.[3] Gunder and Ingeborg nearly spent their entire married life on the farm, managing the farm work and raising their children. Ingeborg had ten children over a twenty-three year period; she had her last child at the age of forty-two. All but two of her children lived to adulthood. The couple were the parents of ten children: Gunhild (1756); Tone (1758); Halvor (1761-1823); Ingeborg (1763); Olav (1766); Per (1768); Anund (1773-1774); Anund (1776); Ingeborg (1777); and Margit (1779). [4]

After forty-two years of managing the farm, Gunder and Ingeborg gave up their estate in June 1801. At this time, they owned a share in Gaathaug worth 1,110 dollars and a share in Gjestrud in Heddal worth 550 dollars. The gross worth was 1,978 while the net worth was 1,497 dollars. The oldest son took over the farm in 1801, but Gunder had in 1800 decided that the farm was to be split in two. This did not last for long.[5]
