Biography

Sparre av Vik, conventional contemporary after the weapon and the name of the farmhouse formed the name of a medieval high-salvation genus without contemporary genealogy.

Its ancestor was Arnvid (Arvid) Gustafsson(d. 1317), which occurs earlier than 1301. He became a knight some of the years 1301–03. A has been identified with the Mr. Arvid who, according to the Erik Chronicle, as well as Abjörn Sixtensson, accompanied Duke Erik on his Christmas trip to the Norwegian King 1302. The identification is supported by the fact that he, like Abjörn Sixtensson (Sparre av Tofta) is mentioned among the dukes of Erik and Valdemar 1307. Of interest is in this context, also, that their families had the same weapons tincture, red saves in goldfields, that Abjörn Sixtensson's settlement with his mother in 1301 was sealed by A, and that A after Abjörn Sixtensson's death was among those who took care of his children's interests. Thus, it seems likely that A and Abjörn Sixtensson belonged to the same family, but the degree of kinship should probably not be investigated. According to Erikkrönikan, A was killed at "Nyköping guest ban" by one of King Birger's men shooting an arrow through his chest. His seat is said to have been Ekholmen in Veckholm's snow in southwest Uppland, but his widow Ramborg, daughter of the lawman in TiundalandIsrael Andersson (Duck , bd 1), lived at Vik in Balingsta sn, Uppland, according to his grave monument in Västeråker's church in the same landscape. At Vik, A and she had dated a letter in 1315. The

son Gustaf Arvidsson (Arnvidsson ; d. 1366 or 1367) appears from 1334 (DS 4, p. 390: the note), became knight at King Magnus' coronation on July 21, 1336, the council at the latest by 1350 and lawman in Södermanland some of the years 1350-55. He belonged to King Magnus' son Eric's followers and later King Albrekts. In 1334, G had given the aforementioned Vik as a morning gift to his wife Cristina, daughter of the Council of State Peter Rangvaldsson (three gin-beamed intersecting windows) and widow of Marshal Erengisle Näskonungsson (split shield; bd 14). Except in Uppland, he held land in Västmanland and Östergötland.

G became the father-in-law of the Swedish National Council Finvid Finvidsson (Frössviksätten ; vol. 16, p. 643) and Folke Nilsson (Ivar Nilsson's family) and father of Arvid Gustafsson (d. 1379 or 1380). The latter appeared at the earliest in 1359, and became the Council of Ministers by 1362. He was a lawman in Finland ("Österland") from one of the years 1364-66 to one of the years 1372-80, was dubbed knight in 1372 or 1373 and was governor of Lagunda hd in Uppland 1377-78. As landowner, A can be invested in Uppland, Västmanland, Närke, Östergötland and Småland.

A was the last on the mans side of his family but left behind his daughter Margareta Arvidsdotter (d 1415), who owned Vik 1382 and got married to the knight, the national council and the lawman of Uppland Ture Bengtsson (Bielke; bd 4). Their son Sten Turesson became the son-in-law of Karl Ulfsson (Sparre av Tofta, above), grandfather of Sten Sture dä and grandmother of Gustav I. Sten Turesson's daughter Katarina Stensdotter inherited Vik, who later was the seat of her son Nils Olausson (S of Ellinge, p 783).
