Gustav Johannes Hirsch was a 'prokurist' (translation: confidential clerk) for the German-American Telephone Company in Cologne, Germany. The company sent him on a business trip to New York (about 1908). At that time , he bought his wife a small woven silk tapestry as a gift. This had been made in France. I have placed a copy of this tapestry in the 'media' section of this profile. (Barbara K Burke, wife to Manfred Klaus Joeres who is the grandson of Gustave Johannes Hirsch).
He was a reservist in the armed forces. He was seriously wounded at Ypres during WWI on April 26, 1915 and died a few months later of this injury.
