Guy Funchess Kennedy

Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 20 Jun 2004: Columbia - Services for Guy Funchess Kennedy, Sr., 73, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with burial in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Kennedy, husband of the late Judith Ruff Kennedy, died Thursday, June 17, 2004. Born in Batesburg, he was a son of the late Ralph Guy and Martha Shealy Kennedy. A graduate of Newberry College, he received a master's degree from USC. A longtime educator, he was a teacher and administrator in numerous Richland School District 1 schools, retiring as principal of Hyatt Park Elementary in 1980. He was a member of the S.C. Retired School Administrators Association, and he served the S.C. Education Association and a number of other civic, professional, and Christian organizations. In his retirement, Mr. Kennedy studied painting and became an accomplished artist. Mr. Kennedy was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for forty years. Surviving are son, Guy F. Kennedy, Jr. of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Marty K. and David L. Keels of Columbia; grandchildren, Andy, William and Thomas Keels of Columbia; brother, Ralph S. Kennedy of Batesburg; sister, JuAnne K. Weeks of St. Augustine, Fla.
