Guyon Denis was born in Saint-Sauveur de Nuaille (today St-Sauveur D'Aunis). He spent his childhood in this little village of Aunis, until the age of twelve years and following, he went to live in La Rochelle with his parents Pierre and Marie Peroche and his sisters. On the day of his departure for the new continent he was twenty-six years old. Guyon Denis was the only son of a family of five children. Of his four sisters, Marie, Jeanne, Francoise and Louise, only Louise went to Quebec in 1666.
He left La Rochelle for Port-Royal in Acadia (today Annapolis Royale, Nova Scotia) where he remained for several years. He married Jeanne Bernard and began his family. Guyon Denis Chiasson and Jeanne Bernard had two children when they left Port-Royal for Chebouctou (today Halifax). They did in this area hunting and fur trade for many years and sold its furs to the Le Borgne trading company of France. In the accounts books of this company, his name appears on several occasions.
In 1675, he settled in the region of Beaubassin (today Amherst) and the same year, the youngest of his sons, Michel, was born. A land grant was made, which he cleared with the assistance of his sons Gabriel-Pierre, Sebastien and Jean. We can still see today, in this beautiful valley, not far from "Fort Beausejour", the lands cleared by these valorous colonists from France.
Jeanne Bernard gave him eight children: Gabriel-Pierre, Jean, Francoise, Sebastien, Marie, Michel, Anne and Marguerite. Jeanne died in 1682 probably following the birth of Marguerite.
Guyon Denis died relatively young in Beaubassin, in 1692 at the age of 54 years. Two sons of Guyon Denis and of Jeanne Bernard, Gabriel and Sebastien, lived in Beaubassin until their deaths, but these are their children who lived in the difficult times of the deportation of the Acadians about 1755.
Note: Some research shows a surname of "Chiasson Lavallée" a birth date of 1641, only one spouse. It is possible these are two different people- perhaps brothers, with similar first names.
"The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him." (Ezekiel 18:20)
All the Chiassons of Cheticamp are descended from Gyon & Jeanne. Which would include Helene Poirier, wife of Pierrot, mother of Azilda Rose Poirier LaPorte. Which would make Guyon and Jeanne double G-G-G-G-G-G-G-G- Grandparents of Azilda Rose Poirier.

GUYON DIT-LAVALL CHIASSON: Guyon came to Acadia as a young man, from LaRochelle, France on the L'Oranger between 1671-1686 (WFT Vol II). This ship was sent to Port-Royal by Emmanuel Le Borgne, sieur de Coudray, who the King of France had recently named governor of Acadia, despite it being occupied by the English at the time. This English occupation was more in name than in fact, however, and beyond a few merchants from Boston who opened stores in Port-Royal, the Acadians were more or less left alone during this English period. During this occupation, the Acadians ruled themselves through an elected council. The French governor continued to live in France, but ships carrying provisions and new colonists would periodically arrive at Port-Royal. These new colonists were mostly young people who signed contracts to work in the colony for three years at an annual salary of 80 pounds or approximately 20 dollars. At the end of their service to the governor, they were free to stay and live in Acadia or to return to France.
Guyon Chiasson obviously decided to stay put.
In 1671 Guyon was recruited to move to the new Acadian settlement established by Jacques Bourgeois at Beaubassin. This new settlement was located near the border between present day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on the isthmus of Chignectou.
Guyon may have inscribed himself into a military regiment at some point, because in the census of 1686, he is listed under the surname, Lavallee. It was the custom in the period for French soldiers to take a nom de guerre, and many continued to use that name after they left the military. In any event, by 1686, Guyon was one of the most prosperous residents of Beaubassin, with 40 arpents of land under cultivation.
