In 1920 Gwendolyn Jonkman (11 y, born in Michigan), her father Bartel J Jonkman (35, Michigan), her mother Anna (37, Michigan), her sister Cecilia (14, Michigan) and her sister Esther J Jonkman (8, Michigan) lived in Ward 3 of Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.

In 1930 Gwendolyn M Jonkman (21), her father Bartel J Jonkman (45), her mother Anna (47), her sisters Cecilia Van Eerden (24) and Esther J Jonkman (18) lived still in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.

In May 1940 Gwendolyn (31) and her husband Bartel Zandstra (34, clerk treasurer at the town hall) lived at an own home, worth $9000, in Highland Town, North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana. Bartel lived in 1935 at the same place, Gwendolyn in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.

Her husband Bartel Zandstra died in February 1983 at the age of 77 years, very probably in Highland, Lake County, Indiana. Gwen remarried the widower Meindert DeJong (born in March 1906 in Wierum, Friesland, Netherlands), who was an award winning author (he was the first American to win the Hans Christian Medal) of 27 children's books. The two had been friends since high school. Meindert died in July 1991 in Allegan, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan, about eight months after their marriage. Gwen died in February 1998 at the age of 89 years in Highland.

Gwen Zandstra-DeJong, passed away at home on Saturday, February 21, 1998 in Highland. Survived by daughter, Ann Kathi Stoll; son, B. J. (Kristin) Zandstra of Highland; sister, Esther Vanden Berge of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandson, Jeffery (Florencia) Stoll of Highland; granddaughter, Melissa (Richard) Whiting of Griffith; great grandsons, Raymond Stoll, Andrew Whiting and Michael Stoll; great granddaughter, Ashley Stoll. Preceded in death by grandsons, Kenneth Zandstra and Gregory Stoll, granddaughter, Gwen Stoll and husbands, Bartel Zandstra and Meindert DeJong. Funeral services will be private. Burial at Hope Cemetery, Highland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
