About Hackaliah Preston

Additions made at a later date in Book Two " A history of Ancient Woodbury" An early settler, not an "original signer" was Hackaliah Preston. He was a native of Wales, but came to Stratford from Turkey. Tradition says the Turks for some reason sought to kill him and that he fled for his life. He married Emma Fairchild, daughter of Thomas Fairchild of Stratford, one of the principal planters and first magistrates of that town, who had come thither directly from England. He soon removed to Woodbury with one of the companies of the first settlers. (This narrative does not relate precisely with other data).
