About Hal Birkeland
Emigrated to U.S.A. in 1927. Civil Engineer, Masters in Engineering at UW, Seattle. Worked on "Galloping Gertie" Tacoma Bridge which collapsed into the water. Owned his own engineering business in Tacoma, WA. Also taught at UW.
Founded ABAM Engineers, Inc. in 1951. The first ”A” is derived from Thomas W. Anderson, ”B” from Halvard Wessel Birkeland, the second ”A” from Arthur R. Anderson og ”M” from Robert F. Mast. “ABAM is a Consulting Engineering firm offering professional services in the field of structural and civil engineering. In its early years it gained national and international recognition for its pioneering work in prestressed concrete. While maintaining this expertise, ABAM has broadened its area of knowledge and activity to include all materials and methods. ABAM's clients are government agencies, public and private institutions, architects, engineers, industrial and commercial concerns and contractors.
