- 'arms of John, Lord Malebisse, in 1339," and, in proof of descent, presented to the Earl-Marshal of England the marriage contract of his great-grandfather, Sir Hercules de Malebisse, with Lady Beckwith Bruce, a daughter of Sir William de Bruce, Lord of Uglebarnby. The decision of the Earl-Marshal, dated 1339, is to be seen in the Heraldry office of England (See page 13 for copy of the decision).
