Hanna Seidner (born Hermann) was married to Ernst Seidner. According to Dr Hans Koch, Hanna and Ersnt were married in 1940.

Until July 2021, the fate of Hanna Hermann, Gerti’ Kaufmann (Hermann) sister, appears to have been a mystery as far as Geni and MyHeritage genealogy sources are concerned.

In the records of Lodz, Hanna Seidner is listed as ‘Seidner / Herrman, Hanne.’ (My family name is often listed as either Hermann or Herrmann)

I have not been able to locate a birth record or a marriage record for Hanna Hermann, but she is Arnošt's wife, not his sister as recorded by some other MyHeritage genealogists.

There is, though, a birth record for a sister of Arnošt (Eva) who was born on 9th Nov 1920. HBMa 693, file 55

At Łódź the Seidner families and Gabriela Hermann / Kafka (Hanna;'s mother) are housed in Gnesener 14. Arnošt / Ernst is listed as a fireman.

A search of the USHMM indicated that Ernst's father, Otto Seidner wrote a letter of appeal to exempt him and his wife from further deportation. On receiving a copy of Otto’s letter from USHMM I sent it off to Michael Steiner who is a friend of Kafka scholar / author Dr Hans Koch.

Dr Koch sent a translation of key information from the letter of appeal, as follows:

“The document is a petition by Dr Otto Seidner, Hanna’s father-in-law, to request the office for colonised people/resettlement committee in Łódź. He requests not to be resettled. The reason he gives is that his son, Dr Ernst Seidner and his wife, Hanna, volunteered for the 2nd transport from Prague in order not to be separated from him (Otto Seidner) and his wife Marie.

‘While I am unemployed, my son has a job in the fire brigade and this is why he and his wife and his wife’s mother, who is a sister of the writer Franz Kafka, probably are allowed to say.’ “

Koch also mentions that the above information has been confirmed by Frantisek Kafka.
