Hannah Tidmarsh was born in Bermondsey, Surrey, England (present-day Bermondsey, London Borough of Southwark, Greater London, England), a daughter of John Tidmarsh and Elizabeth Samm.

She emigrated from from London to Chester (present-day Delaware) County, Pennsylvania by 25 June 1717, where she lived with her uncle, William Tidmarsh, cordwainer, and his three daughters.

She married Robert Barber on 17 July 1718 in Chester, Chester County (present-day Delaware County), Pennsylvania.

Mother of 10 children.

When her husband died, the mortgage on their 250 acres of land in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania had not been paid in full yet, but the land commissioners conveyed the title to her with her children’s consent.
