About Hannah Rebecca Ezekiel
In 1817 Rebecca Israel Ezekiel became very ill. In accordance with custom she went to the temple and had her name changed to Hannah Rebecca -- hoping that the angel of death would then not be able to find her. Hannah died not live long after the death of her fourth child. The three surviving children were adopted by their mother's relatives. Martha, the eldest born in Utrecht, Holland in 1809, was cared for by her uncle Abraham E. Israel. Jacob Ezekiel, born in Philadelphia in 1812, was supported by Michael E. Cohen. Adeline went with Mr. Levie M. Goldsmit.
