Hannah S. Varney was from the town of Bloomfield, Maine, according to an "Intention of Marriage" document that was submitted to the town Clerk of Norridgewock, Maine, on October 15, 1851, and published at the meeting house in Norridgewock, on November first. In 1861, Bloomfield was annexed into the town of Skowhegan. Skowhegan is six miles NE of Norridgewock.

In fact, 23 year old Hannah Varney was listed as living in Bloomfield in the 1850 U.S. census. It seems that her father had died. Hannah was shown with five likely siblings, and her likely mother, "Hariet", age 53. That census page image can be seen here: Hannah

The previous census, in 1840, only shows names for people who were heads of households. Other members in the home were only indicated by their sex and age range. But there was a Levi Varney the 2nd who was heading a household in Bloomfield in the 1840 census. The age ranges for his spouse and children seem to be a match to information written in the 1850 census. So Levi is likely Hannah's father, and he probably died before the 1850 census was recorded. Levi was also listed as heading a household in Bloomfield in the 1830 U.S. census.

Hannah may have gone by the nickname of Anna, because that is how her name was written in the 1870 U.S. census, in Norridgewock. Or maybe the census taker didn't hear "Hannah" correctly, and wrote Anna.

That census page also shows Hannah's husband Jonas, three sons, and three daughters. The three daughters all died in the next 10 years, without marrying or having children. Frank was living with his parents Jonas and Hannah in the 1900 census in Norridgewock. I don't know what happened to Jonas and Hannah's other sons; George and Fred.
