Peixotto married Hannah Straus of Louisville, Kentucky in 1858, and died in 1890 at age 55. He was the father of nine children, five daughters and four sons, all of whom survived him. His offspring included a diplomat, two actresses, a singer, a soldier, and two artists. In 1944, a Liberty ship constructed at the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in Baltimore was named after Peixotto.
