About Hans Bernhoft Klæboe
Hans Bernhoft Klaeboe Phd., or HBK as the family called him, was my great grandfather. He was a teacher, headmaster, writer, author, political and sogneprest at Sofienberg Kike ( church) in Oslo, Norway. He was ordained in 1894. He was the head of The Christian Endeavor Union, for all of Norway. HBK and his uncle Bishop Bang played a part in bringing the monarchy back to Norway 1904/1905. Bishop Bang, with HBK assisting, preformed the ceremony that placed the crown on the kings head. He was a close personnel friend of the famous Sven Foyn. HBK wrote a small book about him and his life. According to Alf R. Jacobsen the author of "Svend Foyn" HBK's small book is one of a very few references they have of Foyn in existence today. In his book Mr. Jacobsen referred to HBK's booklet about 38 times. Sven Foyn never had any children of his own. He was however the god father of at least two of HBK's 11 children. My grandfather John Foyn Klaboe was one of them. My name, John Foyn Klaboe III. HBK taught at Stange's private school( where he met his wife Emily Bjornstad), was head of Jarslberg school, two years in Ramnes, two years in Borre, and one year in Vaale. He was headmaster at the Latin school at Hauges Minde from 1887 to 1890. In 1889 until 1894 he started and managed Sven Foyn's borger(burger) school on Tofte"s street Kristiania.
He was ordained in 1894 by Bishop Bugge in Vor Frelsers Kirke (Our Saviours Church). Assignment, Personal Chapelan (minister under) parish priest D. Thrap in Petrus parish and Lastly at Sofienberg Kike. He retired after 30 years, in 1924.
