About Hans Knauss
Note: Notes from Geneva Greer White:
Düdelsheim is located in the Palatinate region of Germany . It belongs to the district of Budingen Province, Ober Hes sen, in the free state of Hessen. It is pleasantly in the v alley of Stremenbach through which flows the Nidder which i n turn empties into the Nidda. This latter stream joins th e river Main. The brook Nidder divides Düdelsheim into tw o parts. It is surrounded by the hills which are covered wi th beautiful forests. The inhabitants are mostly farmers. I t is a parish village and has nice clean streets and good a uto roads to the district city Budingen.
Very little is known of the history of the village prior t o the "Thirty Years War." The oldest church records begin i n 1636 and are scarcely legible. Prior to 1715 the entrie s show the dates of baptisms only but after that year the d ates of birth are scarcely legible. Prior to 1715, the entr ies show dates of baptisms only but after that year the dat es of birth are also noted. The Knauss family were member s of the Reformed Church inthe village and through the effo rts of the parish pastor, Rev. Muller, we are able to trac e the family to Lukas Knauss who was born in 1633.
