Hans and Kari bought the Lie farm in Gausdal, Gudbrandsdalen. They were good farmers, built up the economy, kept fields and pastures in good shape, had corn and butter for sale, a good household, and hospitable toward all. They had enough for rich and poor, were kind to all, reared well their eight children.
Hans was skilled in making silverware. It is said that he melted silver dollars to provide material. He trained his five sons in the same art.
They turned their farm over in 1812 to their son Ole and his wife Anne.
