About Hans Bertinus Monson
GEDCOM Note
!MARRIAGE: Marriage Cert; 1904; Register of Deeds, Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co, WI; book 3, p 125; Vital Statistics Section; COMMENT: Lutheran ceremony, lived in Whitehall.
!MARRIAGE:A genealogy compiled by Diane Monson Hayden, Wisconsin Rapids, WI and provided to Robert Anderson, Apple Valley, MN.
Soren Ivarsen, Sina's father, offered to buy the Archie Wood place for them but Hans turned him down.
Have funeral card which gives birth year as 1877. Records in Whitehall say 1876.
His WW! Draft Registration, which he filled out says his birthdate is July 11, 1877.
According to "Lest We Forget" (a book about Alexander, ND history by Hevig Clausen Svore) the newspaper account of Hans Monson death states his birthplace as Whitehall, Wisconsin. July 22, 1955: "Rites for Hans Monson, McKenzie County resident since 1921, have been scheduled for Tuesday morning in the Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev Hofstad will officiate. Hans Monson was born July 11, 1877 in Whitehall, Wis. He married Nov 25, 1904 to Sena Yndestad in Whitehall. Mrs. Monson died April 8, 1949. Surviving are three daughters and seven sons."
This one is so cool because my Dad is on it; he was born in Dec 1909 so by April 1910 would have been just 4-months old. It is also cool because Halvor & Bertha are still on it and it matches my Dad's story that they lived with Hans & Sina in their final years. By 1920 they were gone but Hans & Sina were still in Whitehall according to my Dad. It was in the spring of 1921 that Hans went to North Dakota by himself and bought a 320 acre farm (2 sections) south of Charbonneau and north of the Matt Monsons. In August of that year he moved his family out to ND. My interview with Harvey notes also says "Hans & Sena moved to Whitehall, Wis. around 1905. Owned a small farm in "Old Whitehall". Sold it to a neighbor and then rented and farmed three different farmsteads in that area (including his own ... he returned as a renter later). The other farms Harvey refers to as the "Archie Wood" farm & the Haug farm (now Hernes)." Since Hans & Sina were married in 1904 they might have moved then. That might also match John's story about Halvor working for Webb Lumber in Whitehall - have you ever heard of Webb Lumber?
