About Hans Peter Pitzer, I
Little is known of John Peter Pitzer. His grandson, (Richard Pitzer b. June 13, 1801) said John Peter had been born on the ocean. He may be a son of Haman Bitzer who came from Germany in 1740 and was living in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey, by 1750. Haman is probably the Harman Pitzer who died in Loudoun County, Virginia, in 1780.
It seems likely John Peter Pitzer moved his family to Loudoun County, Virginia, about 1775, when other New Jersey families moved there. Elizabeth Pitzer bought land in 1782 in Loudoun County and sold it in 1792. She then moved with her children to Allegany County, Maryland, where she died in 1798. Her son Anthony was married in Allegany County in 1794. There were other Bitzers in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and ther were other Bitzers in Loudoun County, Virginia. It seems likely they were all related.
