Hans Schwarz

Hans was born in Vienna in 1891 and married Hildegard Pollak at the Stad Tempel synagogue there in 1924, but was divorced less than two months later. He arrived in New York, USA on 2 January 1939 having taken passage from Cherbourg, France on 26 December 1938 on the SS Franconia. He entered the USA on a visa issued in Prague and gave his last address in Europe as Prague, Czechoslovakia. The record of his passage to America lists him as a divorced, 48 Year old, Jewish 'Merchant' born in Vienna. At the time of his naturalisation as a US citizen on 11 February 1944 he was living at 141 West 73rd Street, New York and gave his occupation as 'Restaurant' and nationality as Austrian. In the same document he gives his name as 'John Hans Schwarz'.
