Son of Amund Hermansen & Andrea Thoresen. His death record lists his name as Hans Thorwald Amundsen. Other records show his middle name as Thorvald, Thorval & Throval.

Second husband of Alice née Backberg Johnson, to whom he was married on December 2nd, 1918, Kane Co., IL. Alice, widowed from Oscar Johnson, had survived the sinking of the a Titanic with her two children. Her Find a Grave memorial contains a fascinating biography. One son was produced from this union: Vernon Hans Amundson, born in Chicago on 6 Mar 1919. (In Vernon's birth record his mother's maiden name appears simply as Berg).

After his death, Alice, twice widowed, married a third time to Carl Peterson. The 1930 Wayne, DuPage Co., IL census shows a blended family with Carl's children from his first marriage, Alice's children from her first two marriages (Harold Johnson, Eleanor Johnson & Vernon Amundson) & the daughter from their own union: Irene Peterson.

Of his son: Vernon Hans (born Amundson) Peterson was adopted by Carl Peterson. He's listed as Vernon Amundson on the 1930 Wayne census but as Vernon Peterson on the 1940 census. Born 6 Mar 1916 Chicago, he died in September of 1983 in South Elgin, IL.
