The Lutheran Heinrich Zirkle was the son of Johann Lofenius Zirckel and Catharina Hirzel. He immigrated with his family, including his parents, to Philadelphia Co., PA during 1725.

Hirzel was a prominent family of Zurich, Switzerland. Nickolaus Hirzel (1404-1446) was one of the eight Hirzels to have served as burgermeister (mayor) of Zurich over the centuries. (The "z" in Hirzel has the Swiss pronuciation of "tz" and when some of the family moved to the Palatinate in Germany, they changed the spelling to Hirtzel.)

Heinrich married married Eva Euphrosina Rezin during 1699 in Ittlgen, Heidleberg, Baden, Germany. They had 6 children they named: Johann "John" Heinrich, Han Martin, Eva Margaretha, Johann "Lewis" Ludwig, Anna Maria and Eva Rosena Zirkle.

April 2013 Burial Comments - Betsy Snook from the Little Zion Lutheran Church

Johann Ludwig Zirkle donated the land for the church and cemetery called the "Little Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery" (Indianfield Graveyard) in Montgomery Co., PA.

However; upon his death he was buried along with his father in the Fuhrman Cemetery which was located at GPS 40 19 19.69 N 75 20 49.36W - Very near the Little Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Fuhrman Cemetery is no longer in existence. It seems that the cemetery was eventually plowed into farmland and there is now a housing development located on the site.

Some of the markers from the old Fuhrman cemetery have shown up for sale. The Little Zion Church has acquired some of these markers and have put them together in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

See photo for location of Fuhrman graveyard.

Jacob Hirtzel (b. 1581, d. 1634)

Jacob Hirtzel135, 136, 137 was born 1581 in Fehraltorf, Zurich, Switzerland, and died 1634 in Balm, Switzerland. He married Madelena Keller on Aug 2, 1601 in Pfafficonparrish, Zurich, Switzerland, daughter of Hans Keller and Madeline Bosshead/Bosshart.

Notes for Jacob Hirtzel: Swan ~ Hartzell Family History (by Paul R. Swan) -- online

"The earliest known generations of our Hirzel family lived in Pfaffikon Parish of the Zurich Canton in Switzerland, some ten miles east of the city of Zurich. Lake Pfaffikon is the site of one of the largest prehistoric settlements built on pilings in the marshes of that region. Three levels of construction were found, dating back to the lowest, stone age strata of 3000 B.C.

"On the southern shore of Zurich See (Lake) lies the village of Hirzel, and it seems not unlikely that the family name originated in that area, and earlier generations at some unrecorded time moved to Pfaffikon. Another branch of Hirzels, undoubtedly related in some way and contemporaneous to our earliest known generations, lived around Winterthur, a city about ten miles north of Pfaffikon. Both of these branches in the third known generation emigrated to The Palatinate, and area of Germany that had suffered huge population losses during the Thirty Years War.
