Sheldon Peck's family came to America from England in 1635 through Deacon Paul Peck who settled in Connecticut around 1635. Sheldon's father, Jacob, was born in 1756 and served in the Revolutionary War. He married Elizabeth (Gibbs) and Sheldon was one of their ten children. The family lived in Cornwall Vermont until the father's death in 1838. Sheldon Lived for brief periods in Ct & Vt then moved to New York where he was a friend of the Churchill family. He and his wife Harriet (Corey) moved form their home in Onondaga County NY to State & Washington in Chicago in 1835. In 1837 he traded the land for provisions to move to Babcock's Grove. In 1840 Sheldon Peck is on the Federal Census in DuPage County with male = 1 under 5, 1 5-10, 3 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 40-50, Females 1 under 5, 1 30-40, with a total of 9 people. Three persons are employeed by agricultural jobs. In 1850 the census states Sheldon Peck 54 Portrait Painter $3000 Vt, Harriet 43 VT, George 21 farmer NY, Watson 14 NY, Martha 13 IL, Henry 11 IL, Susane 7 IL, Abigail 5 IL, Sanford 2 IL. Brown, Sanders, Dodge & Churchill are close by families. In 1860 Sheldon 63 lives with Margot 58, Watson 25 Artst, Margt 23 Domestic, Henry 21 Lab, Lesanne 18 - teacher, Abby 16, Sanfort 14, and Frank 7. They live next to Winston Churchill & family. In 1880 Harriett 75 lives with her son Frank 27 in the Township of York (Lombard) IL. He was farmer.
