Harmon Bruce Moffitt, son of John and Elizabeth Moffitt, was born October 1, 1852 in Clark County, Ohio, and succumbed early Tuesday morning at the home of his son, Bruce Gilbert Moffitt, following an extended illness.

In 1856 he came by ox team with his parents to Iowa County, Iowa, and on August 27, 1877 he was united in marriage to Sophronia Emily Wiggins. Two children were born to this union, [ (Jesse Moffitt and Alma Moffitt) and Sophronia passed away after the children had grown up ].

Mr. Moffitt was united in marriage on July 3, 1901 to Amanda Shobert and one son [ Bruce Gilbert Moffitt ] was born to this union. Mr. Moffitt and his family moved from North Liberty, Iowa, to Oregon and then came to Adair, Iowa in 1910.

Mr. Moffitt was made a Master Mason in White Marble lodge, Number 238, North Liberty, Iowa on March 14, 1895, and on his last birthday, October 1, 1945, the Adair lodge presented him a 50 year certificate issued by the Grand Lodge of Iowa Masons, and this honor affected him much pleasure.

He was named first sexton of Sunnyhill cemetery when the cemetery association was organized, and he served in that capacity for many years. He also was employed for many years by the W.H. Burr hardware store.

Mr. Moffitt is survived by his wife [ Amanda Irene Moffitt ]; three children, Alma Otto and Jesse Moffitt of Iowa City, Iowa, and Bruce Gilbert Moffitt of Adair, Iowa; two stepsons, Roy Shobert of Riddle, Oregon and John Oliver Shobert of Adair, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Gow of Ashland, Oregon.
