About Harold Warnica Price

Harold Warnica Price, 1896-1975, was born to parents Frank DeMille Price, 1866-1937 and Ida Nancy Warnica. They had three other children - Arthur, Frank, and Ida Marion. Harold attended the University of Toronto during 1915-1916; then enlisted with the Royal Air Force. He was sent to the Middle East and served with the (British) Royal Flying Corps in Mesopotamia (Iraq) and Persia (Iran) during the remainder of the First World War. He took many photographs starting with his enlistment and voyage to the Middle East in June, 1917 through his departure in September, 1919 and voyage home. He was also in charge of aerial photography for his unit. After the war, he completed his Batchelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1921; and obtained his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1924. He served in the Maryland National Guard in 1926-1927, and then returned to Ontario to take a job as a physician at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. In 1929, he joined the Calgary Associate Clinic in Calgary, Alberta and became a well-known pediatrician. During the Second World War, he was a medical officer at Currie Barracks. He retired from medical practice in 1961. In addition to his photography, Dr. Price's other hobby was trail riding as a member and official doctor of the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies. He also enjoyed spending time at his Bar HP ranch in the Ghost River Valley. In 1930, he married Irene Elizabeth Gardiner. - Series consists of textual records and photographs relating to Harold Warnica Price's military service; family, medical practice and personal life.
