We regret to have to record the death of an old and respected member of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Harold Stephen, who died at his residence at Newtown on Saturday. Mr. Stephen, who represented the Monaro electorate, was a well-known figure in the Legislative Assembly, as he was a most regular attendant, hardly ever missing a sitting of the House, and a frequent speaker. He represented Monaro in the 12th Parliament, which was opened on the 17th November, 1885, and was again chosen as a member for the this constituency on the election of the present Parliament. Mr. Stephen, besides his political career, had been associated for many years with journalistic work. He was a firm protectionist, and during the time the present Ministry had held office has always sat on the Opposition benches.
