Harold W. Fitzwater
Harold W. Fitzwater, 77, of Route 1, Philippi, passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at the home he shared with his son.
He was born April 24, 1925, at Junior, a son of the late Talbert and Margaret Hinebaugh Fitzwater.
On April 25, 1947, he married the former Helen Y. "Bonnie" Hymes, who preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Randall E. Fitzwater, with whom he made his home; three daughters, Mrs. Chuck (Vicki) Reed, Belington, Mrs. Gail (Beverly) Hardy, Clarksburg, and Mrs. Doug (Katrina) Meadows, St. Leonard, Md.; one brother, Raymond Fitzwater, Belington; two sisters, Kate Lemon, Akron, Ohio, and Midge Pratts, Surprise, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Bob, Aubrey, Stanley and Harry Fitzwater; and one infant sister.
Mr. Fitzwater was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army and was a life member of Laurel Mountain Post 410, VFW at Belington. He was a former coal miner, retiring from Wolverine Mining’s Badger Mine and was a member of the United Mine Workers, District 31. He was a Methodist.
Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Doyle N. Rider officiating. Interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery. From 9 May 2002.
