A very hard working lady, Harriet worked for a wealthy Jewish family "that owned Ligonier." She was able to purchase two houses with her saved earned money. One house was at the corner of Martin & 2nd Streets in Ligonier. The other house was on Grant St. She worked for the Strauss (or Straus) Family.
Granddaughter Mary Jane Schwab believes that Harriet was from either Ligonier or Cromwell, Sparta Twp., Noble Co., IN. (May have been the dau. of Benjamin Archer, farmer of the Cromwell area. His wife was Martha, and they had the following children: Joseph born about 1845, Simon 1848, Levi 1850, Harriet about 1853 or 1854, and Amanda born about 1847. Benjamin was born in Vermont about 1812 as was his wife.
