About Harrison "Abe" Cromer

'The History of Shelby County, Ohio', published by R. Sutton &

Co., Philadelphia 1883.

"HARRISON CROMER. The Cromers, as far back as we can learn of them, are from Kentucky. ABRAHAM CROMER, with his family, came from Kentucky to Miami Co., Ohio, some time prior to the war of 1812. He served as a soldier in that war, and was one of the party who found and cared for DILBONE and GIRARD at their massacre by Indians in 1813. He died near this place. His wife, HANNAH CROMER, died about 1876, aged ninety-eight years. ELNATHAN, a son of the above, was born in Kentucky in the year 1808, was brought by his parents to Miami County when a small child, and has lived there from that time to the present. He married SARAH CAVAULT in 1832. They raised a family of nine children. HARRISON CROMER, of this township, was born in Miami County in 1834. He is the eldest son of ELNATHAN CROMER. He is a farmer, and has made that his business through life. In 1856 he married PHEBE A. GASKILL, of Miami County. They have seven children, viz., LAURA P., WILLIAM H., THOMAS H., MARY A., ELNATHAN E., JOHN M., and ANNA M. In 1868 he bought a farm in this township, to which he moved his family. His farm is among the best improved ones of the township. He has erected upon it fine buildings and improvements, all of which have been made by his own industry, never having inherited anything."

Harrison Cromer emigrated from Miami County to Shelby County in 1868 and had a son William H. Cromer. Harrison was born in Miami County in 1834, and married Phoebe Gaskill, also of Miami County in 1856. Harrison's parents were Elnathan Cromer (b.1808 Montgomery County, Va. D. Miami County, OH 1893) and Sarah Covault. Elnathan's parents were Abraham Cromer and Hannah Harless. Don't confuse Harrison's son William H. with a Miami County, William H. Cromer, who was a step-brother of Harrison (1848 - 1934, MIami County OHio) and my gg graandfather. Hope this helps. "Very nice to make your aquaintance!

My Cromer/Grosvenors were Harrison Cromer and his son, William Harrison Cromer (the second William Harrison Cromer in same Generation. (It would seem Harrison Cromer and another woman, had a son previousvly also named William Harrison (is senior and half brother to my William Harry. *info from Ann Cromer message boards).

My William Harrison Cromer (1859 - 1937), married Elizabeth Ann Grosvenor(b. 1858, daughter of Araminta Whitney and Hiram Grosvenor*(?*). His son Floyd Francis Cromer married Emma Marie Sullenberger approx 1902.

They had 12 kids... one boy died very young, Catherine, William Harry, Bessie, Ethel, Grace, Harry (Harrison,) Margie, Leslie, Ruth, Nyva, my Great Grandmother Vivian Lucille Cromer b. 29 Nov.1902, who was their first born.

She (Vivian), then married John N. Kelly and had

Gladys M. Kelley (b. 1920) later known as Gladys Payne after she was "adopted" by Vivian´s second husband- Joe J. Payne or J.J. Payne or Joseph J. Payne (Joe J. Payne is b. approx.1871 Texas, Yes, I have seen the 1930 Census, Joe J. is 31years, Vivian´s Senior)

There is also a Ruth (b. approx 1921) listed with them, whom I tend to think, may be the daughter of Vivian´s Husband/Partner just previous to Joe J. Payne... a Joseph Manshaw/Manshun/Manshott and his previous partner, leaving his daughter Ruth.

I believe Joe J. Payne, "adopted" Ruth AND my Grandmother, when he married Vivian.

Gladys was 2nd partner of Julius Elsworth Cox from Louisiana and they had a son named Joseph Cox and a daugher named Linda Sue Cox April 2, 1948.

I am hoping, this is pretty much right... the way I´ve entered it now, here. I would so appreciate, any and all information, related GEDCOMS, more info to Elizabeth Ann Grosvenor... who is the Father of Hiram Grosvenor´s Father Nathan? is it Richard Grosvenor (1765-1838)? If yes... and who are his Mother and Father. As well as the Cromer mysteries of, who is Abraham (Abram)´s Father... John Russell Clarke has added a mound of information online, as well to this line. But I haven´t been able to locate anything more on him or a current email... (I hope they are alright.) His wife Gail Grosvenor is the 2xGreat Grandaughter of Alvah Whitney Grosvenor Sr. (from Walker Grosvenor/Richard Bailey Grosvenor/then Gail Grosvenor order)." ~Theresa Renee Elena Delgado-Tossas
