About Harry Earnest 'Ernie' Sherer
Harry 'Ernie' Sherer, 82 of Linton, Indiana, entered into peaceful rest with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. He was born in Bloomfield, Indiana on May 28, 1932 to Ernest J. and Pearl (Emery) Sherer. Ernie took JoVene Griffith to be his loving wife on September 2, 1956.
Ernie was a US Navy Korean War Veteran serving on the USS Midway and the USS Missouri during his two world tours of duty. He was a member of the Linton First Baptist Church, American Legion Post #22, VFW Post 7118, Linton Masonic Lodge #560 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Greene County, Zorah Shrine, Columbian Chapter of Order of Eastern Star #140, BPO Elks #866, IBEW Local 481and UMWA Dist. 12. Ernie was an electrician for Peabody Coal Co. and Amax Coal Co. before retiring in 1992.
Survivors include: one daughter, LaVena Sue (Jack) Watts of Bloomington, Ill.; one son, Mark E. (Sharon) Sherer of Loogootee, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Nathan Wayne Watts, Jordan Ryan (Katie) Watts, Sydnee Jo Sherer (Scott) Parks, Evan Kyle Watts, Paytan Ernest Sherer, Janson Marcus James Sherer, Kristin DeAnn Fiabane, Michelle Danielle Fiabane; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Karleigh and Livia Jo; brother, Max (Barb) Sherer of Bloomfield; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Mae (Donnie) Miller and Marilyn Sue (John) Fougerousse and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ernie in death were his parents, his wife JoVene, four sisters and one brother.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in memory of Ernie to IU Health Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1 at the Linton First Baptist Church with Rev. David Tyra officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Family and friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton on Sunday, November 30 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and may gather at the church on Monday, December 1, after 12:00 p.m. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
