About Harry LeGrand Spinning
Transcribed from Harry LeGrand Spinning's Diary:
Harry L. Spinning's first work was on farms near Rome. Then sailing between Buffalo and Duluth and Chicago. Left Duluth and went into Montana making ties there during winter of '81 and '82. Thence to Seattle, Wash. - where I worked clearing right of way and with construction gang laying track of the Northern Pacific Railway. I also went into British Columbia and helped chop the right of way along the Fraser River for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Returning to Seattle, then going to San Francisco, then to Portland Oregon to Boise City Idaho, then to Ogden Utah, from there to Omaha and Council Bluffs and thence to St. Louis, Mo. Where I had previously spent 4 year with my family. Fred Spinning was here with the Iron Mountain Railway in the same office where my Father and Uncle Henry Sexton used to have charge of.
From St. Louis I shipped on the river boat City of Baton Rouge. I then went to Chicago shipping on the Great Lakes running to Buffalo. From Buffalo to Baltimore where I shipped on a schooner that sailed Chesapeake Bay buying oysters. Returning to Buffalo as soon as the ice was out of the lakes.
In 1886 I went to Woodhull Lake - Herkimer Co. N.Y. where the most of my life has been spent guiding and building.
Oct 22-1915 Bought a place in Holland Patent, N.Y. and moved there.
Nov 15-1927 Bought 908 Arnold Ave., Utica for $5250.00
M 28 Apr 27 Sold Holland Patent house to Chas Rowland
