About Harry Soulard
ACCIDENT NO. 9-January 20, 1911-Henry Soulard, Hecla Branch, C. & H. Henry Soulard, a Frenchman, employed as a pipe-fixer came to his death on this day by falling into the shaft.
At the inquest held over his body by Justice Fisher, the following testimony was given:
George Congdon: "I am a pipe-fixer, employed at No. 6 and 7 shafts, Hecla. I am a partner to deceased. The last time I saw him he was at the 47th level No. 6 shaft tightening a pipe. I had just left him when I heard the wrench fall down the shaft and the cage went by at the same time; after the cage went by I saw Soulard falling down the shaft. The pipe was in the ladder way. He was tightening it toward the shaft and I think his wrench must have slipped off the pipe and he fell in the shaft just as the cage was coming up."
Frank Peterson: "I am a watchman. I saw Soulard about two minutes before the accident happened. As I passed he was stooping over tightening a pipe. I suppose is wrench slipped and he fell forward into the shaft."
Verdict: "That the said Henry Soulard came to his death by falling into the shaft at the 47th level No. 6 Hecla Branch of Calumet & Hecla Mining Co., on the 20th day of January, 1911."
