Major Hastings Elles John Eyre was born on 29 October 1877. He was the son of Lt.-Col. Philip Homan Eyre and Lucy Catherine Louisa Clarke. He married Joan White, daughter of John Baker White. He died in 1951. He gained the rank of Major in the service of the 1st Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment.
