About Hauke Klaassen

ROCK RAPIDS REVIEW Newspaper dated 12/7/1916 says

Mrs Hauke Klaassen, widow of the late Harm Klaassen, has filed in the district court petition for the partitioning of real estate in Grant township owned by her husband at the time of his death. The heirs are Mrs. Klaassen, who will receive one third, and Mrs. J. D. Harberts, Mrs. George Abels, Klaas H Klaassen, Harm H Klaassen, Andreas Klaassen, Mrs. John Abels, Mrs. John Hassebroek, and John, Fred, Richt and Engel Klaassen. Each child is to receive two thirty-thirds of the estate. All the heirs live in the vicinity of George. The suit is a friendly one.
Hauke Wickman, daughter of Klaas and Trentje Wickman, was born January 25, 1858, at Ultler, Ostfriesland, Germany. In 1874 at the age of 16, she came to America with her brother and sometime later the rest of the family came also. They settled at Baileyville, Ill., where she grew to womanhood.
On October 10, 1877, she was united in marriage to Harm Klaassen. They followed the occupation of farming and for 11 years lived in Illinois. They then moved Lyon county, settling on a farm west of George. A few years later they moved to the home place northeast of George.
Mrs. Klaassen was the mother of a large family. Eight children survive. Two died in infancy and three preceded her in death, after having reached maturity. Her husband passed away in 1910.
On October 17, 1897, Mrs. Klaassen became a member of the Zoar Presbyterian church, where she was an ever faithful attendant.
Her last illness was short. She passed away peaceably at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Abels, of Sibley, Monday, March 13, at the age of 86 years, one month and 20 days.
The eight children who mourn her at passing are: Mrs. Etta Harbert of George, Klaas H. Klaassen of Taunton, Minn., Harm Klaassen of George, Mrs. Trena Ables of Taunton, Minn., John Klaassen of Ellsworth, Minn., Fred Klaassen of Little Rock, Richard Klaassen of George, Mrs. Anna Abels of Sibley. One sister, Mrs. William Bucholtz of Altamont, is still living. She also leaves 52 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. Her direct living descendants number 101.
