There he worked as a grain purchaser for Mr. Rockefeller. He and his family moved from Gnadental to Romanovka in the Orenburg Colony in 1898. He built and operated a mill beside a creek 2 miles from Kubanka. In 1903 he moved to the village of Kitchkas in the Orenburg Colony. In 1909 he moved with all of his family except his daughters Anna and Elisabeth to the Barnaul Colony where he lived in Gruenfeld. He died of lung problems. Katharina Janzen's (b. 9 Feb 1919) genealogy book states on p. 13 that he died 22 Mar 1913. His Friedenstimme obituary says 25 Feb 1913.
