Helen Nolen was born and raised near Ben Bolt, TX, just outside of Alice, TX. The eldest of her siblings, she was academic. As a child, she won the County Spelling Bee. She studied at Southwest Texas State University, and graduated with a degree in Education. She was a member of the "Evening Star", a fraternal organization within the Free Masons. She raised her children in Liverpool and Danbury, TX, and later worked at Dow Chemical in Freeport, TX as an Executive Secretary. She could type almost 100 words a minute on the typewriter and knew shorthand writing. She loved to cook and always had a garden to grow vegetables.
She suffered from Diabetes in mid-life which eventually took her sight, her kidneys, and finally her life. She was a wonderful person who was loved by all.
