SHERROD, Helen Van KeurenBorn February 12, 1923 in East Greenbush, NY. Died in Nashville, TN on August, 24, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Arthur Van Keuren and Marian Van Keuren; her brother, Tobias Van Keuren; her sister, Virginia McMillian; one granddaughter, Natalie Marie Kelley, and her husband, Robert Neal "Bob" Sherrod, Sr. Van met Bob while serving in the U.S. Navy, as a WAVE, during WW II; they married in 1945. She is survived by her daughter, Van Marie Sherrod Kelley (Pat); her son, Robert "Bob" Neal Sherrod Jr. (Paula); grandchildren, Catherine "Katie" Nourse, Patrick "P.K." Kelley (Mechelle), Jill Sherrod Neat, Brandy Jones (Jeff); 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces; cousins; extended family members and many, many friends. Van worked for many years at Enzor Travel, was manager of Enzor for a number of years and traveled to many parts of the world. She was a long-time volunteer at Baptist Hospital, where her husband had served as vice president. After retiring, Van took up oil painting as a hobby and became very good at it. She loved animals and often dog sat for friends. Van was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, since the late 1940s. She loved life and lived it to the fullest- a helping hand and friend to many. Her last charitable act was the donation of her body to Vanderbilt Medical School. A Memorial Service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 3511 Belmont Blvd., at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2012. Visitation will be immediately following the service in the reception hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nashville Humane Association, 213 Oceola Ave., Nashville, TN 37209.
