Helen N Shomon

Helen died as an infant from meningitis following mastoiditis and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois. Cemetery records show that a stone was placed on her grave, however there does not appear to be a stone on her grave. During a visit on May 14, 2015 by John Kessel the cemetery attempted to poke into the ground and confirmed there was no gravestone buried underneath the grass.

Her grave is in a difficult to location due to the lack of gravestones in her large lot, spelling variations between the name on the nearby stones and cemetery records, numbering of the graves, and also many of the stones are not in English. Her grave is almost immediately behind the Assyrian monument in section 45. You will find the following three stones:

• Esther Jacobs (1894-1918) (I believe cemetery records show this name as Esther Jacob)
• Babilla Memmo (1893-1918) (I believe cemetery records show this name as Babo Simon)
• Yosip - The stone is small and worn down and in Assyrian with the year 1919. It was translated to say "Yosip from Village of Ada. Died May 22, 1919 and lived 50 years" These three graves are in the next large lot over. Helen is in the corner grave of lot 84 which would be immediately next to this small stone in Assyrian. The graves within Lot 84 are not in sequential order.

Nvia and Rahkey later had another girl in 1914 and also named her Helen
